With a thrilling a 2-1 overtime win over our rivals from Airdrie this past weekend your Mountain View Colts Jr. B Hockey Club tied the prior club record of 10 consecutive wins to start a season. This record was set in the 2015-16 under Head Coach Gord Olsen. In that 2015-16 season-starting run, the Colts put up 65 goals and allowed 31 (34 goal differential) in that span of 10 games. This season your Colts have scored 66 goals and allowed 24 (42 goal differential) in the first 10 games.
Head Coach Rob Turville has credited the early season success to the group of players that have bought into the ‘full team effort’. “We have a special group of players. The theme has been to get better every single day, and our focus is one game at a time”. He added that the fans and crowds in Didsbury make the rink an electric environment and a fun atmosphere. Coach Turville also noted “That our work is not done and we need to continue to find ways to put in a strong 60-minute game every night.”
The Captain of the Colts, Trey Mueller, echoes the Coach’s sentiments while adding “One of the biggest keys to our success so far, is the team atmosphere and connection between everyone. We have the tightest group of guys I have ever played with.” The Colts are hosting the Hockey Alberta Jr. B Provincials in Didsbury from April 7 – 11, 2027 and this is definitely a driving force in the Colts room. Mueller adds “Considering we are hosting Provincials we are clear on the mindset that coasting through is not an option.” The record to start the season clearly reflects the team’s commitment to this culture.
Tyler Lygas, president of the Mountain View Colts, has noted the palpable excitement of the winning season start and the buzz about the upcoming Provincials. He says, “The success on the ice is fantastic, but it is also about the community, coaches, families, volunteers and board coming together as one team and one organization.”
The Colts look at extending the streak when the Red Deer Vipers come to the Didsbury Memorial Complex on October 30th. Puck drop is 8:15PM and this game is sure to be a barnburner; you won’t want to miss seeing this game live.
